The Altiris Server Deployment Solution is a software product that simplifies and centralizes server deployment. It can be installed in a stand alone configuration or integrate into the Altiris Software Suite, if you own it.
What can the Altiris Deployment Solution do ?
In simple terms, this software product provides Centralized Management of Rapid Server Deployment. It make easy scripted Server installs and image capture and deployment of Servers. Deploying servers by simply Pointing and Clicking.
So, big deal you say.
Ok, there's more, the Altiris Server Deployment Solution can also deploy server bios and firmware updates. So if your organization supports multiple server hardware platforms, not a problem. Each server hardware manufacturer, (at least Dell and HP), provide an add-on pack for the Altiris Deployment Server Solution.
Changing the SID of servers is very important when working with imaged based server deployments. The Altiris Deployment Server integrates Sysprep to make this step much easier to configure and execute for a completely automated deployment.
PXE Boot: Altiris Server Deployment Solution comes with a PXE boot component that allows servers to boot on the network to perform and image capture or deployment.
Software deployment using the Altiris Server Deployment Server. Within the product, you are able to create custom jobs that can install software, supports MSI packages, exe installs, file copies, and script execution in context of local admin or domain account.
Server Bios and Firmware Updates are supported by HP and Dell Servers, you must first dowwnload and install the neccessary vendor support packs.
Opinion: Honestly I am impressed with this product, it was easy to install and configure and use. If your supporting a large server environment this product is worth investigating. For me this product is my new best friend.
